HP930C Cleaning and Priming cycle kills off colours!

Hi

I've had trouble getting some Type 78 colour print cartridges to work
recently, 4 out of the last four cartridges have failed on at least one
colour out of the box.

Strange thing is, typically one colour is missing, I run a HP Toolbox
cleaning cycle to no avail, then after the Prime cycle, I lose another
colour!

I am wondering if there is something wrong with the Service Station that
could cause this problem, eg contamination of the wipers etc. I'm reluctant
to keep chucking new cartridges at this printer but would rather fix
something simple than bin it!

Thanks for any help

Most likely you have very old cartridges. Check the "install by" date
on the box. Air may build up in cartrdiges tht are very old or have
been stored at high temperatures, causing one or more colors to fail
(usually yellow and cyan). Check the cartridge warranty date as shown
at:

I have seen various methods of recovering these cartrdige, including
putting the cartrdige in an old sock with the nozzles toward the toe,
take it outside and swing it around your head rapidly.

Thanks for your tip, it is only the magenta missing, tried the sock routine
to no avail. cartridges aren't old, and came from different batchs. I will
stick with 2 out of 3 colours as I'm scared to "prime" in case I lose more
colours! Suppose I better try an original HP next time before blaming the
printer.

Hmm... it is very rare for magenta to be out on an HP 78 unless all the
colors are missing. On the other hand, if you are using remanufactured
cartridges you might find the following interesting:

marketing spin for
http://www.hp.com/united-states/consumer/inkjet/qualitylogic_study.pdf. I
think you will have much better luck with a fresh real HP cartridge.
