Hello.

The printer refuses to function. Turning it on, it clicks and the
middle yellow light flashes.Pressing the button results in a pronounced
half-second rip, like a gear stripping, and a two second rumble like
it's trying to pick up a page, then shuts off.

The cartridge holder does not move to the center when opening the lid.

Any thoughts on a fix?

Thanks.

Try the procedure at:

Removing any paper jams and then manually rotating the rollers as
described in step 7 should clear your problem.

Check for a paper jam of course. But I suspect something has fallen
into the area by the print head. Look closely. Try to start it with the
door open and quickly unplug it so you can look in the area where,
hopefully, the print head has moved from. Something appears to be
restricting the full sing of the printhead so it's shutting down an
looking like it's not moving at all. Do more looking than cycling
because you may be doing damage to the geartrain.

Thanks to you both for the replies.

Paper jam it was - 4 sheets wrapped around the roller accessible through the
rear panel, not visible from the front.
