HP722 top and bottom problems

I have owned HP printers for many years and have not had this problem.

My friend's HP 722c (windows 2000) cannot print on the bottom 1.2
inches of a sheet. Its properties call for 0.46 bottom margin. Even a
1 inch bottom margin gets the printing cut off (the line is entirely
gone or the bottom of letters are missing). Sometimes the printing
will also start barely a quarter inch from the top. But still the
bottom is a problem.

In Word2000, the top is fine but we can do no footers and even the
last line is cut off or half cut off (the lower half of the letters).

Short of always trying to have a large bottom margin, do you have any
suggestion? Thanks in advance.

Sorry can't help except to say that the printer driver that HP wrote for the
Deskjet 722C I am trying to use ...... is the worst piece of garbage I have
seen in a long time .......
and of course, HP says the printer is too old so they will not help with
their poorly written driver ........
I can't wait to replace it ........
