These two cartridges are essentially the same except the HP45 contains
42ml whereas the HP15 contains 22ml, so I understand. The cost of the
cartridges are nominally similar. I believe the HP45 cartridge can be
used in place of the HP15 by masking one or more contacts. Has anyone
any experience of this?

It can be done, but has side effects. Masking the needed contacts also
disables several nozzles, which can cause streaky output. I used to have
a bookmark to a page giving the procedure, but I can no longer find it.

Also, I believe the #15 can be refilled with as much ink as a #45. The
only drawback is that the printer thinks there is only 22ml, and will
signal low cartridge long before it's actually low.

The side effect is that 15 out of 300 nozzles (5%) won't work. It doesn't
hurt much the printing quality. If anyone wants the instructions I could
give them here. It needs to cover just one contact.
