I am interested in buying an HP2605dn. Whilst its main use will be
printing text, I will have a need to print colour graphics (artwork
though not necessarily full colour photographs).

I am concerned however that HP's spec for the printer recommends a
maximum media weight of 105g/m2. I haven't seen many glossy papers
with a weight as low as that - not even on HP's website (I am based in
the UK).

Can anyone who has experience of printing on glossy paper with a
2605dn reassure me?

Thanks

I have been using HP paper. They list several glossy papers here
http://www.shopping.hp.com/store/product/product_detail/Q7822A%23ABA
I print calendars, newsletters and every day prints on the HP and I don't
care for glossy paper for these jobs.
I have been very happy using HP presentation and brochure paper in matte or
soft gloss.
Everyday printing is on HP color Laser 28lb paper.
I have tried some HP brochure glossy 44lb which worked fine however it
taught me that I didn't care for glossy paper for my printing.
I have a Epson R1800 inkjet for printing photographs on glossy paper.

Gordon-

For my purposes, photos printed on plain paper are quite good.

The HP2605dn Print-Finishing menu lists a Media Type of glossy paper up
to 163 g/m2. That said, you still may not be satisfied with glossy
laser prints. I don't think they compare to ink-jet glossy prints.

(DO NOT use glossy ink-jet paper in a Laser Printer. The coating can
damage the printer.)

Hi Pat & Fred,

Thanks for the feedback which gives me the assurance I was seeking. I
think the brochure & presentation paper is the one I want to use for
my graphic printing - the problem is trying to get hold of supplies.
I did say I lived in the UK - HP here don't seem to be marketing that
paper. I guess I'll have to find something similar but at least I
know I can go higher than 105 g/m2 (not sure what that is in US lbs)
but not higher than about 163.

I wish I lived in the US :-)) The price of the HP2605dn is about
half the cheapest price here !

Here is a link that talks about US paper weight and metric weights
http://www.inkjetart.com/weight.html
I know 500 sheets of 8.5X11 HP color laser 28 lb weighs 6.9 lbs. I just
weighed it.
I have always had to order HP brochure and presentation paper over the
internet.
Look for paper that specifically says color laser. I have also used Xerox
24lb laser paper 98 brightness that was for color laser.
