HP245 minor problem

I have an HP photosmart 245 printer. Very satisfied with the quality and
convenience. One annoyance that I would like to get resolved is that when
printing borderless onto the HP paper with tab the image gets enlarged
slightly so that top and bottom are chopped off by perhaps 1/8+ inch. This
is a problem if the subject is near the edge and I guess the obvious
solution is leave enough room around the subject when shooting, however, I
am wondering if there is some adjustment can be made so that what is printed
is what is there.

If you print with border the size of the image is smaller and nothing gets
cropped.

This is my first post, sorry if it this is not the appropriate Group.

You will find that commercial labs do the same thing, and yes, it is
annoying. The only solution I've found is, as you point out, don't crop so
much or increase the size of the canvas slightly so as to leave a white
border around it.

An even worse problem is if you take uncropped digital images to a lab for
4x6 prints (19¢ at Costco), the actual shape is a 4.5 x 6 and they therefore
chop a whole lot off of the height. It used to be possible to specify "not
borderless" and get around these problems, but I don't think anyone does
that anymore, except of course custom labs.

I am not familiar with the HP 245 photo printer. The printer driver for my
Canon i850 allows you to set the amount of overprint for borderless printing
larger or smaller. You may find a similar setting on the HP printer driver
for your OS - or maybe not.
