HP1120C Problem/Leds blinking

Greetings,

My HP1120C started acting up a few weeks ago: it stops working while
printing something and all 3 leds on the front panel start blinking at
the same time. This happens at least once or twice a day, and the
heavier the workload, the more often it happens (always while
printing, never when idle). I have to turn the printer off, clean the
queue and start the printjob again.

I have cleaned the printer thorougly, replaced ink cartridges, used
different types of paper, etc, etc. Nothing seems to work. Only guess
is that maybe an electric/electronic component may be overheating, but
it´s just a guess.

Any help or advice will be much appreciated. Txs a lot in advance!

Have a look at the round steel bar that the carriage moves on, is
this slightly slippy with clean oil or does it feel dry with a black
dusty coating. If it's the latter, then you get one of the silicone
gun oils or clock oils, clean the bar with alcohol and give it one or
two drops of oil. What happens is that the printer thinks the
slightly stiff operation is a carriage jam and stops.

Another possibility is a faulty cartridge, the pringhead eventuall
overheats stopping the printer. There may be a way to find out what's
wrong by pressing the paper feed button to see what the secondry lamp
code is, however it could take some time to find it on HP's web site.
fixyourownprinter.com may have some info on that code.

Hi Jonathan,

Txs a lot for your reply!.

The round still bar is still slippery. Does not feel dry.

I recreated the problem by sending a 40 page long printjob. Pressed
the paper feed button when the printer stopped printing and the 3 leds
started blinking. Nothing changed. Not sure if the "secondary lamp"
that you mention is the bottom led. If this is the case, it did not
change its blinking pattern after I pressed the paper feed button.

Printed the "Extended Diagnostic Test" before and after the printer
stopped printing. It did not identify the problem as a Carriage Stall,
nor as a Paper Jam.

Could you pls let me know more details about the secondary lamp and
the codes?.
(BTW, www.fixyourownprinter.com does not provide info about those
codes)

Txs much!
