Solution Title: HP Scanner cannot initialize
asked by nbestwic on 06/25/2002 09:30AM PDT

Hi!

I have a problem with my HP Scanner, model C7670A. I hope you can
help.

My system is a Dell GX150, with 190 MB RAM, Windows NT 4.0, SP6, 10 GB
HD. Pentium 3, 1 GHz CPU,133 FSB. On-board sound and graphics.

The scanner is connected to the PC via an Adaptec 2940AU SCSI
controller card. It is detected in the SCSI BIOS and is also listed in the
SCSI Adapters applet in the control panel. The problem occurs when I launch
the HP Precision Scan Pro 3.02 software, where it reports an error, "Sorry,
scanner could not be initialized (Scanner not found)."

Also, connected to the SCSI card is a Yamaha CRW2100S CD Writer which
works fine. Under the Advanced Configuration Options, in the SCSI BIOS the
SCAM Plug and Play Support is disabled.

I had previously been using an Adaptec 2904 SCSI card but this is a
very cheap card and only works reliably with one device.

Apparently, this a known problem but there would appear to be no known
fix, just trial and error.

Looking forward to a reply.

Many thanks,

A similar problem here with mine HP6300C -
"Sorry, could not find required library.
Please reinstall scanning software."

HP doesn't care much ... but others demand
a $9.00 for an info...;-)

Suggest you dl and install the correct PrecisionScan software. If you go to
the hp.com site for the 6300c you will find the correct version for NT4 is
2.03. I don't believe your installed version of PrecisionScan has driver
support for this older scanner.

Are your running in SCSI or USB interface? If you check the supported
scanners, not all interfaces are supported. I tried the USB, but it was a
no go. I am running the 6200c with SCSI interface and same basic
configuration you have and have had no problems. With SCSI be sure to
install the latest ASPI, otherwise the Vuescan may not find your scanner.
This info and ASPI link are found in the Windows release notes of Vuescan.

I found a solution on HP's site, indirectly. Scanners require 2.0 or higherUSB Ports. I have multiple ports on my computer of different capacity. I have the mouse, printer and a hub with many more on it. Disconnect all of them except the mouse. Pull the power plug for the scanner for a minute. Reconnect the power plug and try the USB port you had it in. If it doesn't work, pull the power plug and then try again using a different port. I have found that I can only run mine without much issue with only the mouse and scanner connected. My condolences to you and your family for having any HP product but hopefully this might help.
