HP ScanJet 6100c -- software won't find scanner

I've tried changing the cable -- no difference.
The scanner and SCSI card both show up in Device Manager
as working properly, but the HP software won't communicate
with the scanner.

I originally had the Microsoft driver. I tried installing
HP's driver, but when I boot I get an error message: Error
loading hpsjvxd.vxd , and the software "Deskscan II" still
doesn't communicate with the scanner.

Did you ever figure out a solution to your problem? I have the same
exact problem.

Let me know if that works out. HP scanners are notorious for intermittent
communication errors, which is due to software issues and not due to
hardware.
