Hello,

I just bought an All-in-One HP PSC 2210 which seems to be a great choice.
However, I have problems receiving incoming faxes and I noticed it somehow
interferes with my Bell Sympatico Highspeed modem. The printer is connected
to the phone line via the modem and my telephone is connected with a
splitter to the printer (we tried connecting the phone line directly to the
printer leaving out the modem but that didn't work either). When I turn off
the modem, the fax component works better but always. When I send a fax the
highspeed modem deactivates temporarily. (My highspeed provider told me that
it was possible to have a fax with highspeed.) What to do? Does anyone with
a similar experience know how to solve this problem?

Thanks a lot.

Ulrike

It sounds like you have one phone line; is that right? If so, then, when
you send a fax, the fax in the 2210 uses that phone line and, of course,
the modem connecting you to sympatico can't use the same line at the
same time.

I believe the Bell Sympatico High Speed Modem is a DSL modem, and you should
be able to run the fax and highspeed simultaneously on one phone line, as
they said. I do it. You might check with HP to see if they have any
background on the problem.

If it's a DSL modem make sure the HP is connected via a microfilter to the
phone line. If it's connected to the 'phone out' port on your modem
double-check the modem manual, not all DSL modems have in-built
microfilters.
Without the microfilter, the squelch from DSL can do unpredictable things
when you try and fax.

Sorry to sound dumb here...
By "microfilter" do you mean those thingies that my phone company sent along
with my DSL modem? I was under the impression that those were supposed to
be used on the phones to keep some hiss or something out. Am I supposed to
one on my 2210 as well?

Yes, the same hiss that can cause problems when using the phone can cause the
fax to malfunction. The following may help:
