HP PSC 1210 doesn't print after "successfull" installation

New machine with Win XP Pro and IE 7. Intel Pentium D 945 Dual Core,
(2 x 3.4 GHz) 1 GB RAM

Despite repeated installation printing doesn't work, the error is
simply "system error".
All other functions work well. After the first install HP Director
could not be opened.
So I installed the newly released patch from HP and this solved this
problem only,
printing still gives system error. According to the HP handbook
installation is
successfull if all 5 symbols appear after doubleclicking HP Director.

Could not find respective info on the HP pages.
Is this problem known and if yes how can it be solved?

Have you checked to see that the new printer is the default
in Control Panel printer section? Try printing from your
word processor and not the Director.

I've found, after installing several 2410's for clients, that the
software MUST be installed before the printer is physically connected to the
computer. The install instctns. that come with them specify that
sequence--should have emphasized it more, imo. Try completely uninstalling,
disconnecting, whatever, and then start from scratch and follow this
sequence--hope it works for you. s
