I have an older HP Photosmart 1215 Printer that I have not been able to get
working with Vista (32bit) edition. Every time I try the software the
driver installs but fails to recognize the printer, then uninstalls itself.
Has anyone else figured out how to get this model working?

Hp often recommends trying a driver from another model in the same family.
It depends on the information on the HP site which other driver you might
try.

I have a HP Photosmart 7760 that is not working at all with Vista, yet the
older HP 4+ is doing fine. I am going to follow Colin's suggestion and try
another ''family'' driver, if I can find something at the HP site.

I got my 7150 working as a deskjet 990c. However, no drivers from HP will
work due to the way the photosmarts implement USB printing. You have to set
it up manually from device manager. I forget excactly how I got mine
running, it was a bitch. You have to go into the iexxxx or whatever setting,
change photosmart to iexxxxx compatibilty printer, change the second
iexxxxx to usb printer support, or something along those lines. If you get
usb printer support in the USB section you can probably get it working then
as a 990c. Sorry I can't remember the steps I took.

Peter,

Thanks for tips - I am going to leave the 7760 off Vista right now - I can
still use it if I have to by booting to XP.
every time I boot to Vista it gives me a window about the 7760 driver blah
blah blah - I'm giving it a rest<G>

Yeah!
I got my HP5650 working with the HP990C driver.
That was the first workaround suggested for HP when Windows x64 appeared.
Works for Vista too.

heh.. I had that to, just disabled the driver in the "others" section and
havent had it since.

I did the same thing - along with an unknown PCI Device - no more blah blah
blah yadda yadda yadda when I boot up - life is good again
