I work at a university. All of our hp nters were working fine and all the
sudden when someon is trying to print using hP printer, the computer freeze
for about 7 to 10 minutes. if the user is patient enough he/she will be able
to print. it seems to me that the problem started right after microsoft
release the updates on 2/25/09. does anybody knows if the KB967715 causes the
problem. any help will be appreciated

thanks

How to correct "disable Autorun registry key" enforcement in Windows

this was a change in shell32.dll to disable Autorun on network drives . I
do not see how it would impact printing. Open task manager before printing
to see if a process is using all the CPU cycles while printing. Also check
the system eventlog for any hints.

Hi

this update came out on 2/26/09 that was the date when my users started
having the printing delay issues. when i checked the eventlog, the
application hand error started on the same day. i did remove the kb961118 and
kb967715 and it seems to fix the problem for some of my users. so i though
the update was the problem

kb961118

All the PCL inbox printer drivers become unsigned after you install the
Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;961118

I'd say this is more likely the issue.

How are the computers connected to the printer? Directly to the device or
is a print server sharing the printer?

what version of unidrv.dll and unidrvui.dll are installed on the machines
that work and the machines that hang?
\windows\system32\spool\drivers\w32x86\3

Are you getting any system print event 20s on the machines?

thanks for the e-mail.

all the printers are on the network. the computer connects to the printer
either by using an ip address or dns name. i will try to apply the 961118
update to see how it goes and i will keep you posted. By the way, this is
not one computer it is happining everywhere on campus. so far i have over 50
computers affected by this. As i say the work aroung is to remove the
kb967715 and all the other updates associated with it and hide all the other
updates untill microsoft come with the cause and the solution. Also, the
problem affects only hp printers

thanks

thanks

It's possible that HP drivers have hooks to shell32. I know HP will
sometimes take a dependency on unidrv.dll and unidrvui.dll and redistribute
undated unidrv files with the driver.

I think you only need to REMOVE the 961118 KB
