One of my customers is using the HP Scanjet 7400c. HP Scan-Sharing is
included in the original package. The hpscnsvr.exe shares the scanner
in the network via TCP. This worked as long, as the sharing computer
was running under Windows XP Professional, Service Pack 1. After
installing SP2, sharing the scanner is not possible anymore.

Also deactivating the windows-firewall (stopping the service) does not
bring the solution. The port is open (LISTENING), telnet is able to
open a session, but anyhow, the scan-sharing-client is not able to
find the scanner via the network.

Has anyone an idea to that problem. HP was not able till now to solve
the problem.

Thanks for your help,
Alex

A shot in the dark. I do not have an HP scanner with sharing.

Try Start>Control Panel. Scanners and Cameras, Right Click on the HP
scanner, you should get a menu with a Sharing item (if there is not a
sharing item, the software is not installed for sharing the HP Scanner).
Click on Sharing, on the Sharing tab of the Window, tick Share this scanner.
Click the button Apply, then OK

Otherwise you may have to remove SP2.
Or do a clean install of Windows XP SP2.

When I first installed SP2 on this computer, I lost all of my network
connections to other computers, none of the network could talk with the XP
SP2 computer, it was invisible to the Network. Disabling the firewall did
not help. I had no problem connecting with the Internet from the XP SP2
computer.

After a clean install of Windows XP SP2, everything works as it is supposed
to.

I have a similar problem with Scanjet 6300C.
After installing the notorious SP2 my "PrecisonScan Pro
cannot find required library. Please reinstall scanning software."
I've done it several times, cleaning the Registry -and installed
it again and again with sill the same result.

I phoned to HP Total Help. This is what I received :
