Can anyone help me here please.........
A friend of mine bought a Photosmart 145 which stated it was compatible with
Windows 98 - which he has.
I tried for several hours to get it to work - prints from the card reader
and can print from the printer toolbox via the PC - testing etc. But when
trying to print from the software it cannot find the printer and causes a
page fault in HPQPOS08.EXE. (This is the digital imaging software file).
I tried installing it on my P.C. which is also 98 SE and it did the same.
Downloaded the updated software - even worse.
My partner installed it on his XP machine and it worked fine.
After extensive searches and then contacting HP technical support - they now
tell me it never was compatible with Win 98 - and we should upgrade to XP
because Win 98 is no longer supported by Microsoft!
This printer is advertised and sold as being compatible with Win 98 - and as
for advising us to upgrade just because their printer won't work I thought
was well out of order! Obviously my friend has taken the printer back to
the store - but are HP allowed to do this? I have spent many hours on this
and their tech phone calls are not free. I know we are not the only ones to
have been caught out like this as they know it is an issue with Win 98. Is
this against trading standards rules?
Thanks in advance for any replies,
Jackie
