My HP Pavilion doesn't have any annoying lights on it, but a set of speakers
I bought for it has an eye-popping purple "on" light that for being so small
is incredibly obnoxious. I finally took a little piece of wrapping paper
and cut it into the right size and taped it over the light. I can still
"see" the light--through the paper no less--so I know that the speakers are
on, but now it doesn't give me a blinding headache after fifteen minutes at
my computer.

Masking tape works quite well too, you still get a glow through the
brown covering, sadly I don't think it'll win any design awards
though, but if you don't mind making your pc alittle uglier, it might
be the way to go. I remember using it to cover the light of a 4 way
adaptor that was attracting nearby aeroplanes .
