hp pavilion ze5500 goes dim when operating by battery

When my lap top is functioning under battery power the
screen is not as bright as it is with AC power. Is there
a way to keep this from happening?

This function can usually be found within the BIOS. Check the BIOS
documentation that came with your laptop.

It's usually designed that way so as not to run down the battery so quickly.
Try looking in the Control Panel for HP Power Saver options.
