I couldn't believe it when I bought this HP All-in-one printer/fax/
flatbed-copier/scanner for under $150. I never buy cheap. And I just
knew that... even though it's specs seemed comapribale (in some cases
better) than HPs more expensive models ...that I somehow, I would
regret taking on the price temptation.

Well, it's a very nicely designed piece of hardware. I'd love to keep
it. But the software ..oh -h.

First, there's no desktop icon, nor any program from which to launch
the controls. They told me that this was still under development, that
I should subcribe to their software updates nesletter. So, how to
scan? Well, luckily I was able to get one of my other applications to
launch the scanner setting dialog. I can live with this.

Doesn't scan a simple B&W drawing. Had to put some colorful stuff in
so that it would scan. That I can live with that too.

But then, when I try to share this with my other PCs over the LAN, it
takes 30 to 190 seconds to load the printer dialog each time. Even
just trying to print "x" from nodepad.

This I can't live with; it is so lame.

If anyone has a solution for this. Please let me know.

Thanks

HP has posted an updated driver for this printer that has the full
software suite included (and it does post an icon on your desktop). I
have a J5780 connected to my Vista PC, and downloaded the driver. I
don't know about your LAN connection...so far I haven't been able to
get my Vista PC to network with my XP system. But scanning and
printing both work well. You might try the new driver and see if it
solves your problems.

Concerning your network issue with Vista/XP. Do you have Live One Care
on the PC? Turn it off. voila. Network.

Had me stumped for hours, and not one hint of the issue anywhere on the net.

Hello,

I recently bought the same All-in-One model and have it to connected
to a PC running Windows Vista. I used the latest driver version
available (8.0 from
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/...&cc=us&dlc=en&product=3301296&os=2093&lang=en
for example) and followed the manual device installation but it cannot
find them when it is to install the actual printer ("I don't have the
disc. Show me other options."). I tried this on two Windows Vista
machines (64-bit and 32-bit) but had the same problem; Windows XP can
handle the device correctly but there is one small problem in regards
to the Send Fax function - I receive a "Cannot create
DIHPAiOFaxManager object" error message.

Do you have any problems with using the Windows Vista-related drivers?
If not, what do you think might be causing mine?

I hope you will be able to help me resolve this problem.

Best Regards,
Stan.
