My relatively new HP Office jet 7310xi gives me the error message
"REMOVE AND CHECK COLOR CARTRIDGE" all the time as soon as I turn it
on. I can't press any other keys', or buttons, because of this
message.

I've used the printer maybe a dozen times, and there's no way the
color cartridge is empty, or even low.

I tried cleaning the cartridge as described in the manual , but
continue to get the error message.

Just wunderin' if anyone has any helpful ideas??

Thanks!

I had the same problem. Was getting ready to call HP when i had to leave the
house with my wife to run some errands. We stopped in to a local Deseret
Industrys thrift store (Similar to a Salvation Army store for those who dont
live in the Utah, Idaho, Nevada area). Anyways, lo and behold the same $399
7310 printer i own was sitting there and it had the same damn error as you and
I suffer from. The "Remove and check color cart" issue. Anyways, for the $20
that they wanted for the printer i said what the heck, I'll buy it and bring
it home and try out the near new cart that was in the $20 machine in my
printer and lo and behold, no error message. So i removed it back out and
tried my cart that had maybe 12 pages printed on it and it gave me the same
error again. So once again i put the DI cart back into my printer and its
fine.

So there is something seriously wrong with the firmware in either these carts
or printers (The part of the firmware that keeps track of ink usage or
whatever) and it just refuses on some brand new carts to use them without that
error. I would call HP and demand they replace the cart. And demand that
they tell us what The F$%k is going on with the printers.

Remove the color cartridge and clean its contacts as shown at
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?objectID=bpa02060
(for another set of cartridges, but the same principle applies). If this
does not correct the issue check the cartridge warranty date at
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/genericDocument?lc=en&cc=us&docname=bua02014
then call HP at 1-800-HPINVENt.
