HP LJ 4M+ problems (again)

Hi all,

I posted earlier this month about my poor old LJ 4M+ that wasn't printing.
I got those problems solved due to the help of one of you on here (the
counters weren't set up properly and he sent me a little ps-based program
that solved that). It seems the same problem has cropped up, but the same
solution doesn't work for it. So now I'm stuck with no printing at all for
PS, which is at least better than the paper-wasting PCL that just prints
out tons of garbage at the top of about 15 or 20 sheets.

Any ideas or should I start looking for another printer?

Thanks

Bob Raymond

You can try cold reset - this returns you to factory default
configuration settings.

A Cold Reset is performed as follows:
1 Turn OFF the printer.
2 Hold the [On-Line] (or Go for the LJ5) key down while powering ON
the printer.
3 The message COLD RESET is displayed.
The COLD RESET does not take effect until the 00 READY message
is displayed.
4 When the 00 READY message is displayed, the default settings have been
returned to the factory defaults and the printer is ready to accept
new settings.

Hmm... still doing the same thing.

Any other suggestions?

Thanks though

Print a configuration page. Does it still shows a poetscript simm?
If it does not show postscript installed your simm has gone bad or it
has been removed.

You can always install ghostscript if you are using Linux and there is
a window version also.

It shows that I have 6 MB PCL SIMM, adn that PS is installed. I'm having
PCL *and* PS errors tho...

Yup, I have ghostscript installed- I've had it on there for months and use
it frequently ;)

Thanks
