Hi all. I could do with some technical help.

I have an HP colour laserjet 2550 with an internal
jetdirect printer server on it attached to my small
network. It was initially configured through the
main/host machine on the network and has been ruuning
fine. Software and drivers are on all machines on the
network. A couple of days back, the main computer went
down unexpectedly, through a reinstallation of a printer
driver ironically, although this wasn't the reason, as far
as I can make out. I can't reboot it at all except
through the XP CD and will have to perform some type of
reinstallation. But, this has caused the printer server
to lock or something similar.

I believe, after researching this that it is to do with
the initial configuration which was a DHCP/BOOTP type,
which means if the initial server gets turned off, then
the printer server goes round in a loop looking for
packets which aren't there and will not initialise and
configure with an IP address, so no computer can access
it.

I have been on to HP for help, but everything tried didn't
work. Thr trouble is I can't get to the point of
accessing the printer server to reconfigure it. Turning
of and doing a cold restart doesn't have any effect,
either. If anyone could throw any light on this, I would
very much appreciate it. As I stand, I don't know even if
I get the main computer up and running again, whether it
will cure the problem.

TIA,

CC
