Does anyone out there have or know of an XP
driver/software to enable me to use this older
scanner in xp?
thanks!

What model number scanner? the hp LaserJet is a printer, but even older
drivers work for the printer - I'm using the hp 1200 series WinXP driver for
my Laserjet 1200 series printer, but am also using the old Win98 LaserJet
III driver for it as well (certain forms get cut off with the current
driver, but not with the old).

Try using the latest driver for your scanner, whatever Windows OS it is
for - if you need to, you can always go to "Properties - Compatibility -
"Run this program in compatibility mode for Windows 95 - 98 - 2000" or
whatever.

The LaserJet Companion was a small (4 models?) family of
eavesdrop parallel port sheetfed scanners that shared the LPT
with a LaserJet printer. An HP France support page indicates that
they were intro'd in 1997 and all gone by late 1999.

A c|net review page lists OS support as Win3.1/95/98.

Whether the things work off-line (no driver required), or
whether HP ever did support for later Windows, is unclear.

Might work for the GUI. But does it work the realmode or VxD
drivers, which is what I'm guessing these shipped with?

Since it's likely a 300 dpi grayscale scanner, I'd advise the
OP to just buy a new entry-level 400 dpi or higher color
USB scanner. Even though it's for XP, make sure it already
has Vista drivers, and Linux support, for future-proofing.

10 seconds on google would have revealed this.
