HP LaserJet 6p does not work with XP

I cannot get my HP LaserJet 6P to work with XP. I was able to print a test
page, I was able to print from a dos prompt and I also downloaded the updated
drivers (and now the test page doesn't print). Can anyone give me some
advice on how to solve this problem.

Delete and then re-install the printer, using the XP original
drivers. Unless the updated drivers come from HP directly, avoid
them.

The drivers that come with XP work perfectly, and there are no updated ones.
I have the same printer, and use it frequently. I've got new 4M RAM sticks
stashed away in a drawer...lots of them...if you need three (the max it can
handle) I'm certain we can strike a deal. ;-) Say, a tall beer from my

just a couple of guesses, make sure your printer cable is bi-directional,
check the bios
to make sure the right protocol (ECP, bi-directional etc..) is used for
communicating with the printer. Make sure the parallel port is enabled in
the bios.

Also, make sure that the parallel cable is "securely" connected.
Cliped on at the printer and screwed in at the computer/PC.

What updated drivers for the HP LaserJet 6P? There aren't any.
Aa written by Smlunatick and John0, the original drivers on the
Windows XP cdrom are it. But please disclose where these drivers
came from; the provider needs to be notified of the problem.
