Hi all,

My LJ 4M+ is refusing to print just about anything (I see the 'Ready'
light flash twice as if it's about to start and then it goes back to the
normal 'on' position), and that which it will print it doesn't actually
print, it just prints out a bunch of garbage on the top line of every
page. This problem is apparent both in Windows XP and in Linux, with PS
and PCL drivers (in Win I've tested the XP default, the HP PCL, and the
HP PS drivers, and in Linux I use CUPS, and I've tried both with a raw
postscript driver and several of the HP Laserjet 4/4M drivers). I'm
using the parallel port.

Any ideas on how I could fix this problem?

TIA

Bob Raymond

HW details:

EPoX 8K5A3+ MB, Athlon 1.4, 512MB Corsair DDR
HP PSC750xi and Epson Stylus Photo780 on USB, (both work fine in both OS's)
HP LJ4M+ on Parallel

SW:

XP Pro
Gentoo Linux

First thing: check the printer cable for loose connectors, dog or baby
tooth marks, or other damage. Swap with another if possible.

Aren't there some badly set up counters ?

In case of PS minimally one timeout drops job - and printer do same thing
(flashes and then ready).

How could I set them up correctly?

I've set it up to print out an error page, which reads, quite simply:

ERROR: timeout
OFFENDING COMMAND: timeout

STACK:

Thanks
