How do you get the thing to work? I have installed the
printer, employing the HP driver, downloaded from the HP
web site. I am using a serial connection. All of my
cables are in good working order. The printer self-tests
fine. I cannot get it to print, however.

I, several months ago, had the same printer (actually,
different, but another HP LaserJet 4) installed and
working perfectly. I cannot now get the current version
to respond, however. The printer is in good condition,
having only ever printed approximately 30,000 copies.

Can someone help me?

Verify the COM port setting are the same on the printer and on the computer.
Be default the com settings are geared toward modem settings which usually
are not right for printing. Also if you have a 9 to 25 converter do not
use one that was designed for a mouse, the pinout is wrong for the printer.
When it comes to serial printing, patience is a virtue.
