I recently inherited an older printer and several unopened toner cartridges
from my day-job office (HP Laserjet 3100 all-in-one), and I'm thinking
"Great! Free laser printer!" The only problem is I can't get it to install
and it's driving me nuts. I've tried using the manufacturer installation CD
with no luck, so I went straight to HP
and ordered an aftermarket installation CD especially for XP as a last resort
since I could find NO information anywhere after days of searching. Guess
what? Same deal. It won't even try to install this printer. I immediately get
a 16 bit error message. Exact wording is as follows:
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\AUTOEXEC.NT. The system is not suitable for running
MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows applications. Choose 'Close' to terminate the
application.
What's the deal? I thought I was pretty computer-savvy until this. Now I
feel like a real imbecile. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks so much!
