I have a Laserjet 3100 that was not used for a while.

Now I put it back to work, but prints dont come out as sharp as they
should be.

It seems that something is out of focus ( is it possible ??) or moving
while printing.

Here is an example of it :

I already tryed to substitute toner cartridges, but I have the same
problem with the new one.

Any hint ??

Ciao,

Marco

Your picture is far too small and overly compressed as a
JPG, we can't tell very much about it like that except that
it isn't very dark.

What is that, exactly? If it is an iron-on etching transfer
made from the printer and you have already ironed it, you
may be using too much toner (print jobs set too dark) or
ironing for too long and/or at too high a temperature.

The other possibility could be that your printer feed
rollers are dirty and the paper isn't moving at the correct
rate (intervals) through the paper path. To rule this out
(since a printer may need it's rollers cleaned periodically,
anyway), open the printer and clean them. If the printer is
very old and the rubber on the rollers has hardened, you
might need to replace the rollers or use something abrasive
like emery cloth to cut through the hardened outer surface
of the rubber but that is messy and it will need to be
cleaned up good (and be sure not to take off too much
rubber). Alcohol might help to clean off some kinds of dirt
on them but don't put anything like silicone spray or oil on
or they will be too slick.

The last time I had a problem with an HP printer, I went to their support
pages. On some printers, they even have samples of problem printouts and
what is wrong with the printer.

I agree that my former image is not very clear.

Please check this one :

Now there are normal characters.

This image is a scanned copy of an output page.

Thanks,

Marco

Unforutnately I can't tell much from that picture either.

What font is being printed? Has that printer ever printed
that font correctly? It looks a little fancy, not a common
font like Arial, Tahoma, Verdana, etc. Had you made any
changes to the printer driver? you might try resetting the
defaults in the printer properties or remove the printer in
Control Panel then readd it again.
