Hi,

My subject pretty much sums it up. When I put any paper - usually 24 lb. -
the printer sucks every sheet down. I've tried new, heavier and lighter
bond.

There is a warning on the printer, and in the manual, that says to square up
all the paper at once when loading. But no matter what I do - the paper get
eaten.

Any ideas on how to correct this? I'd greatly appreciate it.

TIA,

B

There was a class action lawsuit against HP for this. They had to send out
repair kit for them. My repair kit lasted about 6 months. I now keep this
printer on a long rope and use it for a boat anchor.

I had this same problem a couple of years ago and had the printer repaired (replaced the
contact bar, cleaned all other areas, etc) for about $75. Since then, it has worked great
- you might want to look into a local HP repair shop. I now have the Officejet d145, but
still use the LJ3100 as my main workhorse printer and it is performing great!

Thanks.

I'll track down a local place that cleans them. I know where HP has an
outlet near by - I just don't know if they sell to the public there.

Thanks again, and happy holidays!

This is a known problem for the HP 3100/LJ 6 series. HP had a free
separation pad kit they were distributing for free to fix, I got one from
the HP web site.

Do you have the URL for this kit? I can't seem to find it anywhere on
the HP web site.

Thanks!

I'm pretty sure the offoer for the 'free' kit is over. HP provided it
as part of a settlement for the class action lawsuit brought against
it. I've got a bunch of them in the garage. Actually it was a pretty
shitty kit. They tend to fall off the intended spot and jam up the
printer, then you have to fish it out and fix it with the proper
parts.

Actually, the URL and offer ended 10/31/03. You will not find the URL.
While the free kits were still available, I installed two on two
different HP LaserJets. For me, they have been working fine. Others
that have used the kits may have had varrying degrees of success. I was
happy, though, and still am.
