In one post you mention that the printer lights do not light up, "the
lights on the printer never light up". To which lights exactly do you
refer? Is the printer getting power?
Also, it would be worth entering the BIOS setup as the computer starts
and checking to make sure the parallel port is enabled and what the
settings are: ECP, EPP, bi-directional port, SPP, or what.
Also, worth checking is Control Panel System Hardware Device
Manager. Check to see if there is a red X or yellow! next to the
information for Ports LPT1.
Please check and let us know.

PS
Yes, it is possible that there is a problem with the port on the
computer.
: Tom,
:
: I followed your instructions in order, and I still have the problem.
:
: There are no bent pins on the cable, printer or PC. I have not
replaced the
: printer cable. This cable does work on the old PC.
:
: Could the parallel port on the machine be faulty? Is this something
Dell
: would have checked before shipping?
:
: Thanks
