Hi There,

I have recently reinstalled my operation system, which is Windows 2000 Prof.
+ SP2. After I have installed my printer - a HP Laserjet 1000 - it keeps
saying that new hardware is found each time I reboot my computer. The
hardware it finds is my printer, which is already installed.

Does any ony have an idea why this is happening?

Thanks in regards,
Jess

No, not really. But in my experience (HP-1000 and WinXP-Pro), you install
the printer drivers first, *then* attach the printer cable. Windows will
notice the new hardware and instantiate the drivers to the new hardware.

If the HP hardware is seen before the drivers are in place, all manner of
problems arise.

In what order did you hook up the printer and install the drivers?

Unfortunately I have tried both orders.

I hope for an advice that will solve this problem.

Unfortunately I have tried both orders.

Let's review:

*IF* you tried the "equipment plugged in first, drivers installed
second" method first, you must uninstall the HP drivers using HP's
driver-cleaner. Simply deleting the troublesome HP printer object from
the Printers window does not actually delete knowledge of the drivers
from Windows INF data files in the INF folder nor (probably) does it
remove registry entries.

See (all one line):
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?
locale=en_US&taskId=115&prodSeriesId=45674&prodTypeId=18972
&objectID=bpl11021

To make sure the INF references to HP drivers are removed, after
rebooting the system, do the Add New Hardware and ask to see *all*
hardware. Of the printer class, if HP LaserJet 1000 is listed, then it
wasn't removed from the INF files. (In my installation of Win2KSP3, I see
that HP LsaerJet 1100 and 2000 are listed, but not the 1000.)

Oh, one other thing - I've found that you *must* plug the USB cable into
the exact same port that it was first seen by Windows.
