HP Laser & USB problems

All -
I have a HP 2550L laser that I'm tryiing to install via USB. I start the
software install, get a message that says connect device, I connect the USB
cable and the message changes to Device fouond (good so far). It then
continues with the install and ends with an error message "Installation
Failed".
I do not have a printer in the Printers & Faxes control panel.

Any ideas?
(Ps:I think there was once a DOT4 usb driver installed. I think I removed
all instances of it from the registry and the system)

On the printer at work, you have to disable the firewall when installing on
a network. Do you have anything that may cause such a problem? Try going
to the task manager and stopping anything not essential when doing the
install.
