HP Laser printing Question

We now have a HP3600 laser printer.

I am trying to print a book of 32 pages. The pages have been made as a
MS Word document. The page size is A5.

I'm having problems.

I would like to print to A4 paper and print 2 pages per sheet. plus
both sides with the page numbers back to back 1/2, 3/4, etc. The pages
in Word are the correct format, portrait, and are consecutive numbers.

Its setting up the printer so that

First page has to be 32/1 reverse 2/31
Second page 30/3 rev 4/29
etc

How is this achieved? there must be a simple setup. I can't find it.

Does the printer setup screen have a "booklet" setting..? My 2605dn does
and I can do this ok.

On the settings for my 2605dn it's under "finishing".

Rob-

I understand the process of converting a document to booklet format, is
called "imposting".

I know of a couple of programs for the Macintosh that convert PDF
documents to that format. A free one is called "Cocoa Booklet". A
shareware version is called "Cheap Imposter".

If your printer has the capability under Finishing, then try Ivor's
suggestion. However it may have limitations that the pay-version of a
program may get around. For example, a thick booklet's outer pages have
to wrap further than inner pages, so the inner pages stick out.
Trimming results in the outer margin of inner pages being smaller.

If you get serious about this, you can extend the technique to printing
an entire book. Some programs are able to correctly divide a document
into a series of smaller booklets that can be bound into a large volume.

I don't think you can do it with the printer, but there is a software
product that will do it, it is called Clickbook and it's from Blue
Squirrel software. A VERY GOOD PRODUCT. [I have no connection with
them but I use the product.]

It's explained in detail in the HP CLJ3600 Software Technical
Reference manual. Go to www.hp.com, search on clj3600,
select your printer, then select Product Manuals.
Finishing features start on page 84.

If you missed it, Barry Watzman <[email protected]> posted a

I'm not familiar with the program, but assume it is for a Windows
environment.

Now I see I made a slight error. The process is called "imposition".

Do a web search for imposition printing program or imposition software,
and I think you will find other programs you can use.

Yes, it is a bit odd to call it finishing, but I think they're
using that term in reference to designing the make-up
and appearance of the printed product rather than as in
finalizing the process. So, you could do the finishing up front.
