with my HP Ipaq 2750. Before I go into the problem is there anyone with Ipaq knowledge.
Thanks tdc.

Not specifically the iPaq, but I used to have a similar PPC so I may be able to help :)

I too have an ipaq - hx2795b , writing this on it now whilst watching tv , what's the problem ?

I have had the Ipaq for a few years but have not used the wi fi facility very much. The wi fi did work OK when I first got it and could conect to the internet. I now have a the possibility of a wireless conection in my home and the lap tops can conect OK. For some reson the Ipaq won't conect.
I have tried to input the security key but says its not the correct key.
In the HP wi fi manager page (available Networks) it shows what looks like a pawn, a lock, WLAN D30....... signal -27, chanael 1
In the settings page it does show WLAN available but it will not conect.
On the wi fi and bluetooth page the wifi button goes from grey to amber!
I may have inadvertently altered a setting.
Its fair to say that the workings of the ipaq are a mystery to me. I have looked in the help pages but I need help to understand the help

What sort of security do you have on your wireless router? It will probably be something like : WEP/WPA/WPA2.

As the Ipaq 2750 is quite old it may not work with WPA2 security.

If you log in via the router web-admin page you should be able to view the type of security in place. It can use WEP, WPA or WPA2... and if it's the latter then your iPAQ probably won't work with it, as it's too recent.

You could change your security settings to WPA and see if that works, but it isn't as secure.

Hello

thanks for the info regarding my Ipaq. I will take tour advice and see what happens. I am a little busy just now the new toy arrived yesterday (Acer).

Could not beleive it arrived so quickly it was only dispatched on the 17th and arrived on the 19th.
I have taken your advice and installed Microsoft Security Essentials after uninstalling Mcafee. All seems OK. Is there any need to install Windows Defender.
I will probably have more questions quite soon
