What does anyone think, will the 7550 accept the new 59 grey cart
eventually? New driver on the way?

Thanks,
Tim

No, it would require a firmware change which is hardcoded into the printer.
Sorry....

I HATE that answer Bob. <G> <sigh> They didn't HAVE to do that, but how else
do you sell the new printers I guess. <G>

I guess I'll just tell my friends that I prefer a slightly colored tone to
my B&W shots. My creative side you know. <G>

Thanks Bob,

Actually they *did* have to do that. The firmware for the 7550 was released
before the 59 cartridge was developed. Since the firmware includes the color
maps and the information for properly servicing the cartridge it was not
possible to include provisions for a cartridge that had not been built when the
Photosmart 7550 firmware was released. Sorry about that :-).

Thanks Bob,

Good explanation.

What about Flash ROM though. I upgrade my slide scanner and even AV gear
that way. OK, I know each vendor gets to pick their product line philosophy.

I have to say, though, that overall I'd rather see printers as the razors
and ink as the blades. They (not you specifically <G>) should make the
printers sturdier and more upgradeable. I THINK it's fair to say that you'd
see a lot less ink refiller consumers out there if we needed to buy new
printers less often to get new features; now and then sure, but not every
time there's a new feature or two.

<mini-flame off>

Btw, I REALLY like my 7550.
