HP G85 leaking ink.

I've managed to tear down an HP G85 All in One printer but I'm stuck as
to how I can remove the waste ink tank. While I can't be sure, I think
it's full to overflowing.

The printer is used in an office environment, put in use about three
years ago, and a leak developed about 6 months ago. (There have been
puddles of ink on the desktop where it sits - it leaks from the right-
hand side. The puddles are large enough to run over to the edge of the
desk and dribble off the side, requiring us now to make arrangements for
a professional carpet steam cleaning company to come in.)

I have the paper transport engine fully exposed and the side panels are
off. The engine is still in the bottom metal undercarriage. I can't
figure out how to remove the paper supply/return assembly either.

A significant obstacle is the fact that if I turn the assemblages upside
down, ink will come pouring out of the waste ink tank. (OK, well, I just
did that holding it over the sink. A lot of ink poured out.)

Any clues to how I can extract the waste ink tank from the assembly?

Can you get a syringe with a needle or piece of tubing into the reservoir
and suction it out?

It seems odd that there is that much ink in the reservoir. Are you
cutting power to the printer with a wall switch or power strip? If so,
that causes some printers to lose their head cleaning history, causing
them to dump unnecessary amounts of ink into the reservour. It's best to
leave power to the printer and just shut it off using it's front panel
power button.

Wouldn't work very well. Most of it is congealed. What was still runny
I've already let dribble out (see original post).

It seems odd that there is that much ink in the reservoir.

Actually, now that I've managed to uncage the printhead carriage (I know
that should have been done before I started) and moved the head cleaner
slide out of the way, I can see into the waste tank. Not much there. And
yet, the ink is leaking out of that tank somehow.

On the other hand, I am finding that there is a film of ink all over the
inside surfaces - like a 10-pack a day smoker living in a small bathroom
for a year. (Ever move into a new place, the prior tenents were smokers,
and spray the walls with 409? Yellow-ish goo... I had to clean my place
like the Bird Man of Alcatraz.)

I mention this film of ink because it might be interfering with the
electronics or sensors and therefore cause the print heads to spew ink
when it shouldn't? I don't think so, because I don't see obvious signs of
ink dribbles on the platen rollers.

This is an AIO (business office class) printer - or so I've been told by
HP - and is used to receive faxes all day and all night in an office
environment. So, no, it doesn't ever get turned off.
