I have a HP DVD Writer 300n that came installed in my HP Media Center. It
has worked with the media that I have many times. (Sony Cd-r's and some
genernic Cd-rw's) When it does decide to work it will start to burn to the
cd and then the process stops and said it failed. The factory installed
software that I am using is RecordNow. Now the drive I think has just
decided not to work at all.

The problem that it seems to be having is that I don't hear the disc start to
spin at all upon loading the tray. And now it just won't do anything. Just
says, Drive E not accessable.

Is my burner done or is there something I can try to troubleshoot it?

The DVD/CD recording/playback software isnt needed in xp,actually it causes
conflicts, you'll really have them with SP2.Simply uninstall the
software,after
in device mgr, select uninstall the hardware, restart computer.XP will install
upon restart...

More stupid, dangerous, and completely wrong information from Andrew E.
Cocoa2020, your instincts are correct. If you can't hear the CD
spinning, the drive has probably died. If the machine is under
warranty, call HP tech support for replacement. Otherwise, replace the
drive yourself.
