HP driver weirdness - fonts cut off

I've got an Access database with a few reports that pack a lot of text
into a single page. I recently built a new PC and moved the database
from the old (running WinMe) to the new (running WinXP). Now when I
try to print those text-dense reports, the descenders of the letters
are cut off on my LaserJet 4P. I was just using the Windows driver, so
the first thing I tried was to install the most current XP driver for
the LJ4P. No change.

To make sure I wasn't just fog-brained, I went back to the old
computer, and printed the report to the 4P. All the text is fine.
Meanwhile, on the new computer, the text bottoms are all cut off.

So I guess the problem is with the XP driver for the LJ4P, but (1)
does anyone have an idea for a fix; (2) how do I submit some sort of
driver bug report to HP? (And would they care for such an old
printer?)

Most likely you have used a font in the report that is not present on the XP
machine. If that is the case, either WinXP or the printer will substitute
what it thinks is the best available alternative. My experience is that it
leads to problems like you are seeing. On the old machine, open the report
and identify the name of the font in question. Then check the
C:\Windows\Font directory on the WinXP machine and see if the font is
present. If not, you can either copy the font file from the old machine (I
don't know what copyright issues are raised), or choose another font that
both machines have in common.

No, it's standard Tahoma, and it's definitely present on both machines.

I experienced something similar to this in Excel some time ago. It drove me
mad at the time. It turned out to be something to do with the spacing in the
setup. I can't remember the specifics now but try fiddling with the settings
in the program. Hope this helps, Dave

I thought maybe if I gave the fields a transparent background, the
text would be "seen through" the other fields, but no luck. Nothing
has changed in the *report*, only the print driver. The only other
possibility is that it's a new install of Access, since it's a new
computer. But I can't find any special settings within Access that
might affect this.
