HP DJ 5850 print head

I can't find the information on HP's website, so I thought I would ask the
experts.

Are the printheads on this printer contained within the ink cartridges (and
therfore replaced with them) or are they part of the carriage assembly?

I'm fed up with Epsons clogging if I don't print at least 500 pages per day.
Every day. Including Sundays. And bank holidays.

I'm also fed up with the cleaning (hah!!) cycle emptying the tanks without
actually cleaning anything.

Third-party cartridges seem reasonably priced for HP machines, and the 5850
has an Ethernet port which I would find very useful.

As a supplementary, would I be correct in thinking that I can just connect
it to my router hub and any PC on the network will be able to use it without
Dad's (my) PC needing to be switched on?

I have had one for a month or so.
I'm pretty certain that when I fitted the ink cartridges that came with the
machine, they, like all other HP deskjets that I have used, had ink
cartidges with integral heads.
Indeed, I believe that only the Canon thermal bubble jet printers have
'built in heads' as the Epson uses a totally different ink delivery system
from the others.
Anyway, if no one contradicts me, I think you can assume HP 5850 ink
cartidges include the print head.

As to the network, yes, just plug it into the hub and it will find a
network. Use the WEB interface to set it up. Good instructions come with it.
You can set it up to receive its IP address from the router if the router
includes a DCHP server or give it a fixed IP address.
You can then use it independent of any other device.

Yes they are integral. The printer uses the 50-series cartridges
(#56/57/58). I have the HP 6540 which uses similarly designed cartridges
but a different series.

Yes, the printer has a built-in print server. Plug it in, configure it,
and you're done.
