I got an HP DeskJet 3520 for Christmas and every time I try to install it
the program on the CD freezes. I tried it 6 times and it freezes every time
it gets to the step where it asks me to plug in the printer USB cord. First
the program freezes then a little later it freezes my entire computer which
I then have to reboot. Without getting past this step I can't ever install
the printer to even test it, not to mention actually use it. Please help!

Are you plugging the printer's USB cord directly to the computer or into
a USB hub?

Try connecting all cords before starting the computer.

If you have a Dell computer the following may help:
http://h20015.www2.hp.com/hub_search/document.jhtml?lc=en&docName=bpu00737 See
the section on BIOS.

You may also call HP support toll free at 800-HP-INVENt or via the web see

I had this happen with my deskjet 3420 with problems exactly as you mention.

The best bet is to ensure the drivers have not been installed, even
partially.

Connect the printer to the USB socket .XP should recognize the model but
willask for drivers location, use the cd drive locationwith the hp
cd..inserted.the program will then load the drivers and will continue with
the rest of the installation automatically,e.g.: printer configuration.

If you have Windows 98 write again as hp has a small program that will
delete registry entries that may already have been made preventing
installation.
Its a question of trial and error but I eventually got the drivers installed
on my xp and win98 machine

Mike.
