I have a paper roller that is putting a very light line on the underside of
each letter just on the right hand side. How can I clean that roller. When
I open the cover the cartridges cover the roller that I suspect is the
culprit.

Thanks

Open the cover, wait for the cartridges to move to the center, then
unplug the printer. The carriage can now be moved by hand out of the
way.

Bob, this brings up another question.
How about using isopropyl alcohol for cleaning the rubber in HP printers?
Easy choices are 50%, 70%, and 92%; all easily obtainable where I live.
The first two are sold as "rubbing alcohol."

I've had excellent experience during the decades using isopropyl alcohol
as a rubber cleaner in audio products. Methyl alcohol has worked nicely,
too. Ethanol has been a disaster, on the other hand, causing rollers to
dry out and crack.

Of course, there's different types of rubber out there, and I'm not an
expert at this. HP recommends plain water for lots of things; I was
wondering if my old trusty standbys are better.
