I cannot get my printer to print anything. Do I need to install Windows 98 since that is what it is based on?

A little more info would be helpful in assisting you.

Does WinXP recognize the printer - could you install it from the Printers
and Faxes "Add Printer" tool? WinXP should recognize it and install a
driver, though it won't be as fully featured as the controls you had in win
98.

WinXP does not play particularly nice with parallel port printers. If
you're really attached to this one, consider getting a USB-to-Parallel
adapter cable; this makes a world of difference in performance.

1. Make sure the printer is turned on and all cables are plugged in
CORRECTLY.
2. Make sure the power is plugged into the way and the electricity to the
plug is good.
3. Visit the HP.com site for instructions. Search for you printer and
select Windows XP then read the instructions to see if those help.
I have an HP 890C printer and Windows XP with no problems. I had it on
Windows 98 before. There are different different drivers for XP than
Windows 98.
