Hi,

When I set it for 4" X 6", it prints 3¾" X 5".
When I set it for 5" X 8", it prints 4¾" X 6¼" .

Is there a cure for this?

Have you adjusted the border settings on the paper?
I'm not trying to be a smart ass here, but it occurs to me you could
experiment with larger settings in your application than the actual
paper and establish a print size that you wanted.

What is the size (in pixels or inches or ???) of your input file? 4x6 is an
aspect ratio of 1:1.5, 5x8 is an aspect ration of 1:1.6. Your input file
seems to be 1:1.33. You will need to crop the photo using an appropriate
software program. (I like Photo Paper Saver, see
http://www.freedownloadscenter.com/Utilities/Misc__Utilities/Photo_Paper_Saver.html)
Also, the DeskJet 882c will not print borderless prints.

Thanks Bob.

The size of my input file is 1280 X 960 pixels or 17.78" X 13.3".
I've installed "Photo Paper Saver" and got to the stage of about to print
the picture. The display showed how the picture was being cropped to fit
4" X 6" while maintaining the aspect ratio of the *picture*, but it didn't
print. It produced a blank sheet.
I should add that the measurements I gave re the test printouts were of the
print area alone. (No border) They were printed on letter size plain
paper. (I had wrecked enough photo paper.......)

Thanks "Al".....

I haven't adjusted "border settings" before. How is that done?
Re using larger settings than what is actually wanted, I tried that with the
5" X 8", and as you saw, it turned to be pretty weird.
These printouts were made on letter-size paper and refer only to the printed
area.

OK, that is consistent with printing at the sizes you gave, since your input
file is 1:1.33 the output will be as well unless you crop your photo.

OK, do you have any photo editing software? I am not sure what is going on
with your PPS installation, but at this point it is probably better to focus
on your original issue. To print at 4x6" you would need to crop your
picture to 1280 x 854 pixels. Your 5x8" print would require cropping your
picture to 1280 x 800 pixels.

Thanks again Bob.

For a 4" X 6" print I "cropped" the picture from 1280 X 960 pixels to your
recommended 1280 X 854 pixels, and I could see that it didn't really *crop*
the picture. It "squished" it a little from top to bottom, unlike the
result with PPS. ( The option to Maintain Aspect Ratio of the *picture*
wasn't available using this size.)
It printed out to 3¼" X 5" (printed area). The ratio of width to height is
now close to correct but when I printed it on a 4" X 6" card, the borders
are unequal (½" at sides, a little over ¼" at sides).
I would have expected that when the aspect ratio of the card is 1: 1.5 and
that of the picture is the same, then the borders would be
equal...............?
