My 840 C has small straight lines across pictures. Those lines are
not there when printing text.
I had printed one 8x10 which came out fine. My next several prints
all have the lines. Any ideas or suggestions?

If the lines are regularly spaced it is probably caused by a missing
electrical connection between the cartridge and the printer. You should try
cleaning the cartridge and printer contacts as shown at:
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?objectID=bpa02060

You can also print a diagnostic nozzle test as shown at:
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/...e=bpd07098&product=61012&dlc=en&lang=en#N1008
A properly operating system will have even nozzle patterns. If there are
random missing nozzles try a cleaning cycle from the toolbox. If there are
regular patterns of missing nozzles the most likely cause is an electrical
connection, treat that as described in the above paragraph.

While I currently have an HP990 and a preferred Canon IP4000 the
previous 800 series was filled with problems and I did not think highly
of it. Go out and get a Canon IP4300. It is substantially better in
every respect one uses a printer for.

This HP employee should really tell you to get a Canon IP4300 but one
really should not blame an HP employee for not recommending the best
unless HP makes it.
