I have just installed the above printer on my new pc running windows xp but can't get it to print on both sides of the paper as it used to under win98se.
Can anyone advise please?

If this is a duplexing unit, you should go to start/settings/printer
and faxes. Right click on the printer and go to properties and clic
the configure tab. Make sure the duplexing box is checked. Apply th
change and try it again.

Hope this helps!

XP only has a basic driver for this older printer, and HP did not make
an updated driver. As a result, you no longer get duplex printing. If
you get the software called fineprint (search for it or go to
www.fineprint.com)and install it, you will get back the double sided
printing and maybe some other functions. I had the same problem with my
HP890.

Thanks Ken. That explains the problem, although a new computer & operating system should not be worse than the old system!!

It's not anything to do with the operating system.... it's HP's
responsibility to write drivers for their own products. They took the
decision that this was such an old and discontinued printer that it wasn't
economically viable for them to write updated drivers for this model.
Microsoft did include basic drivers so that you could still use the printer,
but they don't have all the 'advanced' features you were used to.

I have the Deskject 820cse. Should I assume that my duplex capability is now
gone under windows XP. If so, I agree this is going backwards!!!

HP decided it wasn't financially worth their writing new drivers for XP as
the printer had been discontinued for so long. You can regain duplexing
ability by using the shareware found at www.fineprint.com.
