My home printer's service station, specifically the ink spittoon, needs cleaning
but I can't see how the side cover is fastened. Can anyone tell me how to remove
it? Thanks,

Assuming its the same/similar case as my 710c :
Remove carts
Unplug supply while carriage centralised.
Stuff tissues on/in ink tray in case of dribbles on inversion.
Remove two plastic flap covers
Remove two Torq screws on top
Both sides hinge outwards (clamshell-like) with hingeyhooks! at the
bottom, but at the same time as hinging you have to release two teeth
for each side from the chassis - the teeth are front and back and you
need something thin and strong like a steel rule to slide between
chassis and cover to unhook them. Once the sides are off you can get
at everything.
Ink station can be moved out/back manually by the servo gear.
Good luck! A bit fiddely like all HP stuff. Such good fits
presumably provided by CAD design!

Thanks for reply Charlie+ but it would appear that my 720 is different from a
710? I can't find the two teeth. I can lift up on the top rear where the screw
was (the side with the spittoon) and the rear wants to move out but it is stuck
on the front. I used a metal scale (ruler) and passed it along the side seam
but it did not help. I looked close with a flashlight both in and out and can
not see what is holding it. I was tempted to cut a hole in that side to see
better but I hate to ruin the printer. Are the teeth near the bottom or the top
and when you say unhook them do you mean push in, or lift up, or? Thanks again,

You are not following instructions! You cant just remove one side,
you have to remove the whole case, yep the teeth are difficult to find
- this is the game HP play to help make people buy new printers, that
is aswell as not producing proper updated drivers for newer operating
systems so the driver uses up more ink.
The 720 case looked identical I think. As far as I recall the teeth
are well up inside - 2 inches or more very roughly - memory is fickle!
