HP DeskJet 460 "worth it" for battery operation?

Just curious, it _might_ be nice to have a battery powered printer,
especially this thermal printer that claims to print color.

Any opinions, one way or another?

If you need a portable printer this is a good one. It is fast and high
quality printing, both text and color. The paper handling is not as
robust as other Deskjet's, but is adequate for short runs. The
cartridges are reasonable size, see
http://h10060.www1.hp.com/pageyield/us/en/DJ460/index.html.

What kind of printing do you plan to do? For photo's I use a Photosmart
475 which is also battery powered. It prints up to 5"x7" photos. It is
handy to have a battery operated printer with card slots to allow
printing directly from camera cards.

Thanks, I don't know where I got the idea it was a thermal printer, it
is not, of course.

Right now, I am just doing trivial one-shot document printing on the
road, however my needs may increase later on to include graphics.

Are you happy with your Photosmart 475 ?

It is a thermal inkjet, technology similar to nearly all HP inkjet
printers.

Yes, I like the Photosmart 475, but it is a dedicated photo printer, not
really suitable for printing text. I also own a Photosmart 375, an
earlier version that did not include a hard drive (for storing photos)
or the ability for printing 5x7 photos. For your needs the Deskjet 460
(or a used Deskjet 450) would be more suitable.

I endorse the remarks made by Bob Headrick. We don't see many portables, the
best of the ones that we see do seem to be HP's, Canon and perhaps others make
them also but for this class of printer I would recommend HP for mainly
reliability reasons. Portable printers are expensive so the research you are
doing is a very good idea and reliability is a major consideration..
Good luck.

Thanks Bob (...and Tony), appreciate the advice.

Just bought the HP 460 today.

Loose end I better explain.

My fault, I should have specified what I was thinking about when I
posted "thermal printer".

I was thinking of those old printers that used a hot wire to print on
special temperature sensitive paper.

Sorry for the confusion.
