I am trying to print just what I highlight on a page but the printer selects everything. how do I fix this problem.

Ability to print "selection-only" is limited to only those applications
which enable it, e.g. Word *and* the printer driver works properly. You
don't say what application you are using. Assuming the application is
enabled to do this, then the problem is surely the printer driver.
Check with HP (www.hp.com) for how to fix this, or try getting a new
printer driver from them with the hope that was a bug they know about.
Nothing really to do with XP.

I agree with most of what Rob says but he missed a bit.
When you try to print a selection, go through the File\Print menu rather
than clicking on any Print button that may be sat on an application tool
bar. By doing that you're usually given several print options before you
confirm the print. As Rob says, it's upto a particular application or print
driver whether the "Selection" option is allowed

good catch. I hardly ever, if ever, use the print icons on because they
are rarely offer the flexibility you mention--hence I forgot. Cheers.
