I'm having problems with NAV, thinking of doing a recovery.........I have
Documents & Settings folders backed up for all 4 users.
If I do a recovery to factory settings, can I just copy the D & S folders to
their rightful places?
Will that restore my OE settings emails, etc??

....Lisa

The basic answer to your question(s) is . . . NO. Why
don't you just try to solve your problems with NAV ?
Never use a sledgehammer when a toothpick will do the
job . . .

You might have to do the import of your settings just like if you were upgrading from say ME to XP

Hey Lisa. Although it's true that trying to delete or overwrite your new
D&S folder with the backup of the D&S folder will fail, here's a primitive
workaround. I've found you can do it, if you work with the files, instead
of with the D&S folder. Specifically, if you backed up by copying the files
& folders to another drive, then you can copy the files (not the D&S folder)
from the old D&S folder into the new D&S folder. Don't delete or try
overwriting the new D&S folder with the old one, since this will mess things
up. If you backed up by using MS Backup, then restore the files (not the
D&S folder) from the backup into the new D&S folder.

Lisa, to back up all your emails and the folders they are in just right
click on your Inbox and select properties. That will show you the path to
all your .dbx files which are all your email folders and their contents.
Back up the folder they are in and you can import them into OE. Do the same
with your address book by bringing it up and clicking on Help, About Address
Book. It will display the path to your .wab file, save it and import it.

If you use a recovery CD, that will send the PC bak in time to the day you
bought it. Unless it came with pre-installed user IDs (unlikely), you will
need to re-create those IDs. Further, it is possible that XP will sense
some difference between the old ID and the new one, even if the names are
the same. If it complains about not allowing access to files or similar,
try this article on how to take/change ownership of files:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;308421

Using a recovery CD will also remove all XP updates that you may have
installed. So, unless this PC is very, very new, be prepared to re-install
at east the critical updates immediately, or your PC will be vunerable to
some of the nasty worms of the past year or so, even if you have up-to-date
antivirus installed.

Of course, it will also remove all other software and updates that were not
part of the original PC.
