I have an HP laptop and printer and everytime I unplug the laptop to
take it somewhere the printer reinstalls and makes a copy the next
time i plug it back into the usb port. Is there any way to stop the
repeated copies or is this printer just not built for laptops and
repeated unplugging?

Any USB printer should be able to be unplugged and reconnected whenever you
need to.
The behaviour you describe can be due to a corrupted driver or incorrect
initial installation.
I suggest that you check the HP website for the latest driver for your printer
and download it.
Now uninstall the printer using the HP provided uninstaller, disconnect the USB
cable from the printer.
Open the printers folder in Control Panel, click on File, Server Properties and
then select Drivers. Select any and all mention of your printer and click on
Remove.
Reboot your computer and install the printer from the downloaded driver, do not
connect the USB cable until the installer asks you to.
Good luck.
