The usual failed part is the Ink Supply Station.
Easy to check if this is the case.
Open the ink Supply station and remove all of the ink cartridges.
You will see a small (usually white) plastic knob underneath each of the
cartridges, they should be spring loaded, one or more of them may be stuck
down. If so you can fix the problem yourself but it is not very easy. It
involves removing the station and replacing a broken piece of plastic with a
steel stud or similar and hooking the spring back on. Also reinforcing the
other plastic studs that have not yet broken.
It is easier to replace the supply station and this is probably still
available. I believe HP may have reinforced these parts at some time as this
used to be a common failure.
